New Jewelry!

This necklace is named Marina, and it’s new from Gold & Citrus (and designed by me)! You may have seen me wearing this in some outfit posts recently, like here and here. It honestly seems to go with everything, which is why it’s now up for sale!

Remix

Dress (worn as skirt): Necessary Objects, Shirt: Josephine Chaus, Cardigan: J.Crew, Belt: Vintage from Grandmother, Flats: J.Crew, Bag: Luana, Jewelry: Michael Kors, Gold & Citrus, African Beads my sister got in Ghana

So believe it or not the silver dress worn underneath all of this was my NYE dress of ’08. I haven’t really worn it much since then, and even tried to sell it on Ebay with no luck. But I finallllly realized that I could make it a bit more casual by layering on top of it. And it was fun to have a little does of NYE in the middle of the year. So this is my reminder to you… if you liked it once you can probably remix it in a new way so that you will love it again. I know I definitely need that reminder.

Recipe that I love

This recipe was inspired by a friend who always seems to be finding recipes that add unique flavor to otherwise typical meals. You can follow her on twitter here.

Anyways, this is now one of my favorites. Here’s what you need:

  • Whole wheat pizza dough (I get mine at Trader Joe’s by the bag)
  • 2 Pears
  • Pack of provolone cheese
  • 8 oz container of gorgonzola cheese crumbles
  • Handful of chopped walnuts
  • Pizza stone (I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond)
  • Balsamic (optional for dipping pizza in afterwards)

Ok, now here’s what to do!

  1. Put pizza stone in oven at 450º
  2. Let dough sit on floured surface while oven heats.
  3. Chop up two pears. Eat a few pieces.
  4. Pull pizza stone out of oven and get ready to move quick.
  5. Stretch the pizza dough over the stone until it somewhat resembles a circle.
  6. Layer provolone cheese on top.
  7. Layer pears on top of that.
  8. Gorgonzola on top of that.
  9. Chopped walnuts on that!
  10. Whew. Put back in oven. I usually keep it in around 15 minutes, because I like it crispy.
  11. SLICE, & EAT! Dip in the Balsamic if you think that might be your thing. I would recommend it.

First day of Summer

1. Soothsayer Turban – $178

2. Ribbon embellished Trilby – $50

3. Fallow Fedora – $338

4. Pop Flower – $75

5. Striped Sun hat – $58

I’m always wearing my sunglasses, but one thing I don’t really do is wear a hat. I think this needs to change. Especially since I seem to have a special knack for burning my nose and getting sunglass tans. The hats above will do everything from preventing burnt noses, to keeping faces hair free. Oh yea, and then that Pop Flower from Ban.do is just plain fun.

Happy first day of Summer!

Balenciaga and Spain

Tank: Sugar Lips from Heritage Row in SF, Shirt: F21, Skirt: J.Crew, Belt: Vintage from Grandma, Bag: Kate Spade, Sunglasses: Prada, Hair Scarf: Vintage, Necklace: Gold & Citrus (soon to be released), Flats: UO

I wore this to the Balenciaga and Spain show at the de Young Museum. I loved the show, and was inspired by this quote: ”Balenciaga treated fabric like a sculptor treats clay or marble, masterpieces cut with scissors, sculpted in fabric colored by an artist’s fantasy.” —Eric Billeter, 1970

He somehow managed to create modernist flat planes of fabric that don’t fall flat when it seems as though they should, while at the same time mastering intricate tasseled, and ruffled pieces with extreme detail. I was personally drawn to the more experimental and modern dresses such as this wedding gown:

Nail Experiment

Wet n’ Wild: Precious Metals #356, Revlon: Peachy #405

Painting and drawing most of my life, I’m not sure why I don’t experiment with my nails too often. I usually just go for the solid color, and that’s it. Basta, as I like to say. (Although I do remember painting my and my sister’s nail as turkeys for Thanksgiving as kids… does that count? ha.)

But with some inspiration from Cupcakes & Cashmere to use a little imagination, my nails are a bit more fun this week. Let me know if you try this out, or have any other nail ideas!

I’m growing up

Here’s evidence that I’m growing up:

1. I no longer hate tomato juice.

2. I sometimes say, “honey, it’s time for dinner!” except replace honey with b (what I call Rich)

3. I complain about my aching back after a movie at the theatre.

4. I now own something Chanel!

I feel like there’s more to this but maybe more will come to me later. Anyways, over the weekend I went to my new favorite store; Jeremy’s here in SF, and got those Chanel boat shoes above! Everything at Jeremy’s is discounted because it is somehow defective. These were missing their laces, so they were half price, and I got an additional 40% off of that! Yipee! I will get better laces for them, promise. But for now, I just had to share my new find.

June Birchbox

One thing that has always overwhelmed me is walking into a beauty store and trying to find new products from shelves and shelves of choices. How am I supposed to decide what might work for me? Based on the packaging? Ummm…not sure…

But anyways, since October when Rich got me a subscription to Birchbox for my birthday, I’m done with getting lost in Sephora. Every month, Birchbox sends me a box like above. In it, there are 4-5 beauty samples that are large enough to actually use for more than a second. This way, there’s time to really know if it’s working for you. And then sometimes… like this month, you get a full sized product and get all kinds of giddy over it.

Here’s what I got this month starting with that full-sized bad boy in the lower left:

1. Laura Geller – Baked Blush N’ Brighten: used this over the weekend and it gave me a nice glow, I’m looking forward to pretending San Francisco does actually have Summer when I use it.

2. Kate Spade – Twirl: smells yummy, light and floral.

3. Pangea Organics – Toner for normal/ Oily skin: I actually have dry skin, but enjoy spritzing this on my face even just for the scent. It’s refreshing! But Rich didn’t seem to think so when I sprayed him haha.

4. Amika – Obliphica Oil treatment: This, I need. My hair is always so dry, and this helps my hair pretend it has moisture.

5. (And this is the little extra packets) Dr. Dennis Gross- Alpha Beta Glow pad: Little towelettes that you rub on your face and gives a nice little tan. The kind that you would get after being out in the sun for a day, not the orange streaky kind.

’til next month!

Before & After

The after is actually more like the original covering that we found beneath this crazy colorful one. I think the black seat lets the design of the chair itself take charge.

Mirror: Alameda Flea Market, Antlers: Alameda Flea Market, Plant: Ikea, Console: Cb2, Silver Magazine tray: West Elm, Buddha head: Alameda Flea Market, Mid Century chair: Alameda Flea Market, Dog sculpture: Found on the street

One of my and Rich’s favorite things to do is go to the flea market. I love seeing piles of ‘junk’ that somehow look so beautiful all stacked up. Our favorite is the Alameda Flea market. The evidence is in our entry way. Anyways, every time we go I feel like we have gotten better at picking out things that have potential, rather than things that are perfect as is. It takes a little more consideration to envision a piece in a different color, or being given a new function, but in the end it’s totally worth it.

We definitely haven’t changed the world yet, but we did recover a chair. And I like it.
